Topia is java7-compatible since a while now. But hibernate 5.1 is still maintained and the version 5.1.1 has just been released [1]. It fixed a bug previously reported regarding topia 3: https://hibernate.atlassian.net/browse/HHH-10360 Both topia 3 and topia 2 could be based on hibernate 5.1 for the moment.
